the cottage

‘Rustic’ is certainly a word you could use to describe Myrtlemae Cottage. It is also ‘cosy’, ‘charming’ and ‘comfy’.

We think the cottage started life as a stables come work shed. Since then it has been through a few changes including the addition of flagstone floors using bricks rescued from the old Balingup Hotel.

Over the last few years the cottage has been meticulously re-purposed. The interior living space is essentially one large room split over two levels. The upper level features a queen and two king single beds. On the lower level is the living area with lounge and woodfire stove, dining area and kitchen. The new kitchen has a stainless steel gas cooktop, oven and fridge along with a toaster. kettle, and Nespresso including tea and complimentary coffee pods. We have also included all the things you need to cook up a feast.

Off the main space is a newly renovated bathroom that also has a washer/dryer combo. There is also access to south facing deck (perfect for sunsets).

There’s no TV, but you can stare out the widescreen window and take in the nature channel all day and there is a host of books, games and puzzles to entertain - not forgetting all the things you can do on the property.

The Property

A little under a kilometre north of the Balingup town centre off the South West Highway, Myrtlemae Farm is a 24 acres property that overlooks the undulating hills of Balingup and the Blackwood River valley.

It is a very secluded and private place at the end of Russells Road adjacent to State Forest and Racecourse Flora reserve and walking trails.

Entering Myrtlemae Farm, you will follow a treelined driveway that opens up to expansive gardens surrounding the main house and cottage. Especially in Spring, the gardens are quite something. There are Roses of every colour, a host of different Camelias, endless natives and an abundance of fruit trees including orange, lemon, mandarine, nectarine, fig, mulberry and more. Scattered arounds the grounds are places to sit - under the dappled light of one of the many, different large and majestic trees - and take in the view.

For kids, there is a cubby house hidden in the trees, climbing ropes and a whole host of outdoor games equipment. There is also a dam on the property which is suitable for swimming, but you might be better visiting one of the beautiful swimming holes in the area.

Beyond Myrtlemae there is a whole lot to see, do, eat and drink in the area. Hit ‘Balingup and beyond’ to find out more.
