House rules and other things

We don’t have a whole bunch of rules. Just a couple, which are really there to protect you and our animals and beautiful farm. And, to give you an authentic experience where you can get away.

it’s a cottage in the bush

fires and barbecues

First thing to keep in mind is that the cottage was a stables - of sorts. It has been lovingly re-purposed and restored by hand and as such is, by no means, perfect. We like to think of them charming quirks. It is also in the bush. So, brings with it those elements. For example, it can get dry and dusty in Summer, so while we do have a rigorous cleaning process, sometimes the outside gets in. Again, it’s the bush so there might be the occasional ‘visitor’. Like the local, and very friendly skink. We also do not have every conceivable mod con - like a TV. We want to provide whats needed, but also want to create a space where you can leave things behind and enjoy whats around you. If that’s not your thing, that’s fine. That’s what hotels are for.

When you have a home in the south west, just the word ‘fire’ makes you nervous. During the warmer months, we have to be very careful. In summer, it is just so dry that even the idea of using any sort of machinery outside is a massive risk - and is often banned. Yes, Summer is the time for barbecues, but not in the South West. That’s why we don’t provide a barbeque. It is also why we are a non-smoking destination. Not just in the cottage, but on the property. Sorry. Either way, its always best to check the fire warnings, here

kids
pets
snakes

Kids are totally welcome, of course. It the perfect place for them. Of course, if they are little, just keep in mind that there are dams on the property and there is a pond near the cottage. Also, in summer, there are snakes. See below.

We love pets and they are welcome. But, just check with us first. We have livestock on our property and so do our neighbours and we just need to make sure all is OK.

Yes they are around in the warmer months. Mostly Dugites, and we have seen a few of those over summer. There are also Tiger snakes in the area (not that we have seen one). You know the drill with snakes. Simple, stay away. If one is near the house, you can call the Ranger. Click here for the contact information:
